Scott Poniewaz was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. He moved to Missoula, Montana in 2001 to begin studying art at the University of Montana. He changed over to photojournalism when he realized that he wanted to document the world and its people. He graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in photojournalism and an art minor He has been published in Powder Magazine, the Montana Journalism Review, New West Network, Paddler Magazine, the University of Montana web site as well as many others. Scott currently is employed by Rustic Pathways and leads photography trips throughout Southeast Asia. Based in Thailand, he also gets the opportunity to spend a few months out of the year in the United States when he isn't jumping around Asia. He is represented by NewsCom for his freelance work.


When not taking photographs or writing, he loves to ski, mountain bike, kayak, backpack and do anything that gets him outside. He was fortunate enough to spend three months climbing, hiking and sea kayaking in the Alaskan wilderness, spent a summer working for a raft company in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and has traveled to France, Spain and Chile.
