Washington Minuteman Project Operations

By scott.poniewaz | May 2, 2006

Here are a few photos from the other weekend when I took a trip to the Blaine, Wash. area to continue work on my documentary project. Just a few more pictures than the immigration protests and debates below.

The Minuteman Project is a civil defense group that wanted to regain control over America’s borders and protect the country from illegal immigration. As citizens they simply observe illegal and suspicious activity, then report it to the Customs and Border Protection officers in their area.

I will add more information, but it is graduation crunch time and I must
design a book with at least 40 images by Thursday for my documentary project.
The project is by no means complete, but I at least have what I feel to be a strong base of images to continue this project when I return from Southeast Asia in September.

There was a small Missoula rally for the May 1st day without immigrants that I will try to get some pictures up from later this week.

Thank you for stopping to look at my images. Please click the image to view the photo gallery.

Words to Wander By

"We want fewer, but higher-paying guests than before. Backpackers spend almost nothing, stay for a long time, and stir up the Tibetans against us. We definitely do not want them."
-Senior tourist official in Chengdu as quoted in South China Morning Post
