Another adventure came and went, but unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to get a whole post written yet. Since the photos are the most important thing anyway, here are some of the images from the trip. I’ve just started using a new gallery, so hopefully it works flawlessly! If you have any problems with it, please email me. It may require you to upgrade your version of Flash, but otherwise it should be smooth sailing for everyone. Also if it is really slow to load let me know. I have a tough time knowing, because my connection over here is at a trickle compared to the rest of the world.
The trip consisted of a tour of Myanmar. It took me from Yangon to Bagan (hundreds of ancient temples and pagodas from the 12th and 13th centuries), Mandalay (beautiful and a bigger city), Pyin oo Lwin (the training grounds for some 20,000 troops near the Shan state where the alleged human rights violations are occurring) and Inle Lake (a big vacation destination and beautiful lake region). All in all, a quick run through, but one of the most beautiful countries I have been to. I’ll have more though later.
Also, for those that were wondering, I did get to watch the World Cup final. It was in Pyin oo Lwin (or Lwyin depending on where you see it) at our hotel in the wee hours of the morning. We got English commentary through a bootlegged pay-per-view showing on the satellite dish that would occasionally cut out, in which case the Burmese hotel staff would quick shuffle through to another foreign commentary version, then get back to English once the bootlegger entered the codes back in. It was quite interesting!
Keep an eye out in the next few days to see the rest of my Burma travels!
