Okay, so I’ve been bad with these updates over the past, ohhhh, three months! This entry will be a bit more informal and a way to catch some of you up with my happenings…
After the Thailand coup in September, I found myself waist deep in work, as I tied up the catalog many of you have now seen: 220 pages of image packed adventure travel trips. Following that very exciting time of deadlines, working in one of Asia’s top printing companies day after day, and settling into a Bangkok city life, I headed off the radar for a month in Burma. While vacationing, we also were working a bit as we went along. One of my favorite countries to visit, I will have all of those photos sorted through this weekend I hope and have another post up for everyone to enjoy…or not!
My next hope is to get to the Burmese Himalaya, supposedly a phenomenal part of the world, but an impossible trip due to our inability to secure permits on our last trip. I then headed back to Thailand and spent some time setting up programs for our company along the western part of Thailand, then tied up my time with a week or so in the quiet ricefields of northeastern Thailand and back to Bangkok for a few days before the long-haul flight back to the US.
I’m now back in Madison for the holidays, enjoying my time to relax for the most part, despite a couple days of work to tie up between x-mas and New Years. I spent the week before Christmas working out of our US headquarters in Willoughby, Ohio near Cleveland and will be heading back after the first of the year.
With that being said, the above images are from the week before Christmas. I was walking home from work, then as I came around the corner found a bit of a surprise as flames shot out of the hood of a car down the street. Thinking like I’ve been trained to think, I ran to grab my camera. After probably confusing my co-worker I was staying with and his family that was there at the time, I returned as they were beginning to hose down the car. As I arrived on the scene, small flames still remained, but these were the more successful images. The guy had just sold the car to his friends, who were beginning to have concerns about how it was running, so he said he would take a look at it. Little did he know this would happen to him! He was safe he even got his girlfriend’s brand new mp3/video player out of the car without it burning. Just a little charred, but when he pulled it out of his pocket to see if it still would work, a smile came to his face when the screen lit up. He didn’t need to get her a new Christmas present!
Unfortunately, the Daily News and Plain Dealer in Cleveland didn’t want the images, but I am happy with what came out of them, considering not much was happening, but I figured everyone enjoys some flames, so why wouldn’t they want them?
So here I am in the US for a couple months and I’ll be traveling the Midwest for work, before returning to Asia. I’m excited about both, but really enjoy living over in Asia, so I can’t wait to return. I really just miss the food and the service standards that are not up to the same levels as the United States, plus they don’t expect tips (making it more difficult to tip here for half-assed service). With that being said, I’m enjoying my time here, its great to see everyone and am excited for the New Year! Enjoy the pictures and I’ll try to keep everyone a bit more updated when I can now.
