Dalai Lama teachings get underway in the Himalaya
By scott.poniewaz | July 7, 2007

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama leaves Namgyal Monastery on July 7, 2007 after finishing his first day of his one-week series of teachings in Dharamsala, India. Please click here to see the gallery of images!
I don’t have a lot of time to write, but I just have to say that today was incredible! Do many other words need to come along with these photos? I would still love to find a home for these images, so if you know of anyone in need of Dalai Lama photos, his birthday celebration photos, or really any of the many other images I have on Traveling by the Lens, please send people my way.
The entrance was a bit of a fiasco, as the press officer had told us we were okay where we were, then as His Holiness approached things changed quickly and all of a sudden security was pushing us around, making us move, getting in the way of our shots and with all the body guards, many of us had difficulties getting images, though I was really one of the only westerners, other than some CBS videojournalists that are working with Dan Rather on something rumor has it.
All in all, it was too quick, but incredible! Some of the pictures are redundant, but it is the Dalai Lama, so what can you do! In total, there was probably about 10 minutes of available shooting time and the time that he wasn’t giving the teachings and walking in and out, gave about 30 seconds of total shooting time! I hope you enjoy the pictures and sorry so short of an entry! I’m a photographer that writes only sometimes, so what do you expect?

Scott,
These newest photo of the Dalai Lama are really amazing!! Sorry to say that the one that stood out most for me was the one of the body guard with the MACHINE GUN… yikes… no false moves around that guy!!
Be careful. Love ya.
